Foundation, Daybreakers award $18,000 to District Music Programs

The Foundation for Edmonds School District is proud to announce it has partnered with the Rotary Club of Edmonds Daybreakers to award an $18,000 school-wide grant to support music programs in the Edmonds School District.

Funds will support: Mountlake Terrace High School’s Creative Music Adventures partnership with Michael Stegner, and will be focused on improvisation and composition strategies; Edmonds School District Middle School Girls Jazz Band, and will be designed to create equity in the music program; Scriber Lake High School will pilot a new music program; professional clinicians and professional development will be made available for both students and teachers.

“With their generous support, new and innovative programs will be designed to strengthen already outstanding instrumental and vocal jazz groups throughout the district, and to create increased opportunities for younger students to engage in the art of jazz” said District Music Director, Scott Barnes.

Founded in 1996, the Rotary Club of Edmonds Daybreakers is an organization of local community and business leaders focused on making a difference by serving the citizens of our city and the world.  They founded the Edmonds Jazz Connection, a community event, making a connection between the schools, the community and the professional jazz world.

For over 32 years, the Foundation has supported students, teachers and schools by putting money they raise where it enhances student learning the most — directly into schools and classrooms. With an all-volunteer board and active community participants, the Foundation has successfully provided Edmonds School District with a dynamic partnership in educating our children.
