<p class="wp-block-paragraph">LYNNWOOD, WA<strong> – </strong>The Foundation for Edmonds School District announced today that it has awarded $164,700 in <a href="https://foundationesd.org/nonprofit-programs/student-scholarships/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">post-secondary scholarships </a>to 59 graduating seniors from Edmonds Heights K-12, Edmonds Woodway High School, Lynnwood High School, Meadowdale High School, and Mountlake Terrace Highschool. In all, 76 donor-funded scholarships were awarded to students pursuing vocational, 2- and 4-year certificates or degrees next fall, the largest number of scholarships provided by the Foundation to date.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The 2022 recipients of the $5,000 Hazel and Morris Miller Memorial Scholarships are: Ruby Hamlyn, Aurysia Ko, Finn Paynich, Carter Wood, Yvone King’Aru, Saley Keita, Matthew Ruiz, Maria Janoo, Alfredo Cordova Herrera, Yokasta Rios Jimenez, Ammar Mustafa.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Josephine MacGowan is this year’s recipient of the $6,000 Bumgarner Family Trust Scholarship. The $5000 In-State Scholarship, renewable for four years, has been awarded to Kevin Gonzalez. Ritika Khanal is this year’s recipient of the $4,000 Gaynelle Burdette Derr Memorial Scholarship and Meiri Asfha will receive the $4,000 Keith Ewing Memorial Scholarship. In partnership with the Edmonds School District’s Athlete Scholars program, 16 students received a Scholar-Athlete Award ranging from $1,000-$3,000.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This year’s awards include several brand-new scholarships, some in memoriam of beloved family members and <a href="http://edmonds.wednet.edu">Edmonds School District</a> staff. Angie Chavez-Rojas and Alex Rust will each receive the $750 Emily Hood Memorial Scholarship. Ruby Hamlyn will receive the $2,000 Edmonds Opportunity scholarship. Mia Elsberry will receive the $2,500 four-year renewable Innovation Scholarship. George Quintans and Alec Rust will receive the Alfi Family Scholarship and Alex Rapelje will receive the Kevin Hanchett Memorial Scholarship.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">“The Class of 2022 proves to be incredibly gifted; we are so excited for all the future holds for you and for this great accomplishment,” says Deborah Brandi, Executive Director. “We continue to be thankful for the families and donors who make these scholarships possible and who allow us to continue making educational dreams come true.”</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">LYNNWOOD, WA – In honor of Emily Hood, the Foundation for Edmonds School District will host the Emily Hood Memorial Scholarship in her beloved memory. Emily was a treasured daughter, sister, and friend, who graduated from Edmonds Woodway in 2020 and was a proud member of the Edmonds-Woodway Warriors girls wrestling team. She passed away on February 28<sup>th</sup>, 2022, from inoperable brain cancer.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Despite her diagnosis and prognosis, Emily defied the odds and fought courageously for three years as she underwent treatment and graduated from high school, spreading joy wherever she went. Emily, alongside her two brothers and sister, comes from a proud wrestling family who have been involved in the Edmonds-Woodway High School wrestling team for more than 11 years.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Emily is one of the six founding members of the Edmonds-Woodway Warriors girls wrestling team. <a href="https://foundationesd.org/nonprofit-programs/student-scholarships/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Emily Hood Memorial Scholarship</a> will honor her memory and provide funding for post-secondary education for Edmonds-Woodway graduates participating in the wrestling program. &nbsp;</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">“It is never easy to face the death of someone so young,” says Deborah Brandi, Foundation Executive Director. “Emily will be deeply missed. We are proud to continue her legacy and hard work by hosting this scholarship in her honor.” &nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">LYNNWOOD, WA &#8211; The Foundation for Edmonds School District, the Edmonds Education Association, and retired District Trustee Ann McMurray will co-host a book signing reception for esteemed, retired, Superintendent, Dr. Nick Brossoit on Saturday, May 7<sup>th</sup>, 2022.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Dr. Brossoit’s book, <em>Love the People in Line: Through the Eyes of My Heart,</em> was published in March 2022 and will be available for purchase at the event. Proceeds from the sales at the event will benefit the Dr. Nick Brossoit Scholarship, established by the Foundation for Edmonds School District in 2017. Scholarships, such as this, provide critical support to students pursuing post-secondary education in vocational, 2- and 4-year certificates or degrees.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Dr. Brossoit&#8217;s book signing reception will be held on Saturday, May 7th from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at Community Life Center, 19820 Scriber Lake Road, Lynnwood, WA. Guests can RSVP for this event by Friday, April 29<sup>th</sup> through the Foundation’s <a href="https://foundationesd.org/stay-informed/special-events/">website</a>. <p class="wp-block-paragraph">LYNNWOOD, WA &#8211; The Foundation for Edmonds School District announced today that it has received an $8,000 award from the Kiwanis House Foundation. An organization dedicated to children in the local community, Lynnwood Kiwanis House Foundation provides important funding and community service to help children in the Edmonds School District.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Foundation for Edmonds School District will use the funds to benefit schools throughout the district through their Classroom and Schoolwide Grants Program. The program provides district staff with supplemental funding for dozens of innovative projects that enrich all subject areas, at every grade level, creating engaging opportunities for all.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Students and staff will also be excited to learn that the Lynnwood Kiwanis House Foundation’s contribution will send a high needs school team to the annual Celebrate Schools Monster Mad Dash 5K event this October. Funding will also contribute to the Nourishing Network’s Weekend Meal program, feeding hungry and homeless children in the district.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">“Part of our mission is to bridge sustainable funding to support our children and educators in pursuit of educational excellence,” says Deborah Brandi, Foundation for Edmonds School District Executive Director. “Working with incredible community partners like Lynnwood Kiwanis House Foundation allows us to fulfill that mission. Their help has a big impact on our students, and we are very thankful.”</p>
