Foundation Receives $22,475 Boeing Grant!
The Edmonds Public Schools Foundation announced today it was awarded a $22,475 grant from The Boeing Company. Funds will be used to support professional development for Edmonds School District teachers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) disciplines. “We are pleased to partner with the Edmonds Public Schools Foundation and are grateful to have such great community support to help our students become college and career ready,” Superintendent Nick Brossoit said.
Working with the District, the Foundation recognized the need to create a culture which inspires and engages students in STEM from grades K-12. Significant effort to expand and implement a fully developed research and design STEM program focused on:
Integrating and expanding STEM across school curriculum, course offerings and learning activities.
Engaging student learning of STEM through relevant real world applications and hands-on projects.
Inspiring and preparing all students to pursue STEM related courses and pathways leading to post-secondary STEM training and courses.
Creating powerful thinkers, innovators, communicators and problem solvers.
Up to 25 teachers from all grade levels will receive ongoing professional development on how to support and integrate student STEM inquiry, research and design projects within their classrooms. Teachers will be oriented to integration strategies and quality project criteria. Trainings will take place outside the normal work day and will focus on supporting teachers in helping students progress toward completion of STEM projects. On February 22, 2013, K-12 students will display their culminating projects at our first annual STEM Exhibition at Mountlake Terrace High School.
This collaborative effort aims to expand STEM education across all grade levels and implement a fully developed STEM program that results in Edmonds School District students becoming career and college ready to meet industry demands for highly skilled workers in our region.
For over 25 years, The Edmonds Public Schools Foundation has supported students, teachers and schools by putting money we raise where it enhances student learning the most – directly into our schools and classrooms. With an all-volunteer board and active community participants, the Foundation has successfully provided Edmonds School District with a dynamic partnership in educating our children.
