Foundation Delivers Holiday Meals to Families in Need

The Foundation for Edmonds School District (The Foundation) announced today that it has delivered 58 holiday meals, to students in need at 17 Edmonds School District schools as part of their Nourishing Network program.

Absher Construction Company, through their Holiday Lights program, donated 50 meals with a value of $1237.50.  Meal donations were also received from Mill Creek Four Square Church, and families from Edmonds-Heights k-12 school, valued at over $200. “Thanks to the very generous donations from these caring community members, 58 families will have a special holiday meal to share,” said Foundation Executive Director, Deb Anderson. “The spirit of holiday is great in our community and we feel blessed to share in their plentiful gifts.”  Holiday meal baskets included a turkey, 5lb bag of potatoes, corn, beans, stuffing, rolls and brownie mix.

The Nourishing Network program is a weekend meal program to help nourish homeless and low-income families in the Edmonds School District. Currently, there are over 250 homeless students, and 37% of families on free and reduced lunch programs. Often these students leave school Friday and do not have another meal until Monday morning.  Nourishing Network will provide meals to families in need.

For over 30 years, the Edmonds Public Schools & Alumni Foundation has supported students, teachers and schools by putting money they raise where it enhances student learning the most — directly into schools and classrooms. With an all-volunteer board and active community participants, the Foundation has successfully provided Edmonds School District with a dynamic partnership in educating our children.
